Access Alliance Powered Access Providers

If you’re planning on renting or buying powered access equipment from a provider in the UK, it’s a good idea to check whether they belong to an association called the Access Alliance. This is in independent collaboration of the best powered access companies in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and provides an assurance that the company you are dealing with is reputable and offers top quality equipment.

Access providers that belong to the Access Alliance offer a wide range of machinery, lifts and aerial work platforms from the world’s top manufacturers, including Genie, JLG, NiftyLift and SkyJack. Powered access equipment includes all varieties of aerial work platform (AWP) and mobile elevating work platform (MEWP), such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, cherry pickers, personnel lifts, trailer-mounted lifts, spider lifts and specialist equipment. All members of the Access Alliance must offer a standard level of service, which must include:

· A thorough inspection of equipment before delivery and between hire contracts

· LOLER certificates obtained every 6 months

· Deliveries and handovers provided by IPAF-accredited drivers and demonstrators

· A free site survey

· Reports on current equipment on hire made available by email

· Regular contact with the access provider throughout your contract

· A minimum of £5,000,000 public liability insurance cover

· Damage and loss waiver cover made available

One of the top requirements on your list when looking for an access provider should be safety. Working at height can be dangerous, and you need to ensure that:

  • the aerial work platforms you use are high quality and well maintained
  • the operatives using the machinery are properly trained to the appropriate standard
  • your access company offer maintenance and repair contracts with their rental or warranty

Many members of the Access Alliance offer IPAF and PASMA training courses at their own facilities, or at an assigned place of training. This means you can train to use the actual lifts you require on site.
