If you recently injure your shoulder during a football game, you must rest and relax your shoulder for one or two days. Your shoulder can become worse and you may develop rotator cuff tendinitis. Rotator cuff tendinitis is a condition where your rotator cuff tendons (four main shoulder muscles that help you to move your shoulder efficiently) becomes inflamed or torn. It can takes 7m weeks or months to recover if you don’t do your shoulder exercises and manage the inflammation.

You should see a health professional to show you how to perform shoulder exercises. After an injury, your shoulder will begin to atrophy (waste away) because your is not moving or as active as before. Research has shown after an injury, you will lose 5% of your muscle strength everyday if you don’t exercise. Exercise is very important, so make sure you do them!
NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug)
See your doctor to prescribe you NSAID that will help to reduce your pain and swelling. If you have severe stomach pains, stop and consult your doctor immediately.
Avoid Aggravating Activities
Don’t do anything that might make your shoulder worse for a week. Avoid playing football until your shoulder feels better. Overhead activities such as taking clothes off a clothesline or putting your shirt on can aggravate your symptoms.
Use a Heat Pack
You can buy a heat pack from your local store for a few dollars. They are cheap and easy to use. Apply it on after 2-3 days after you had your injury. Make sure you cover it with a towel so it won’t burn your skin.
